Summer Employment Resolution

From the Benefits and Work Environment Committee

Presented December 10, 1999  Passed as amended January 21, 2000

The Faculty Senate resolves that summer employment for nine month faculty is not a right, but nor is it a requirement.  It is understood that summer employment is not guaranteed for those who want it, but it should be equally understood that for those who do not want it, undue pressure on nine month faculty to teach in the summer is inappropriate and, therefore, any form of punishment for not teaching in the summer is unacceptable. A faculty member on a nine month contract is fully free to decline summer employment.
